Anyone a member? What do you pay?

Looking at getting membership in Southend for the Mrs birthday but they won’t tell me the prices until I’ve walked round

Re: David Lloyd
Massively overpriced for what you get. Can join a basic gym for much less than half the price that basically does the same job.

Re: David Lloyd
If you don't want to get yourself locked into a contract with them they do a non contract membership that you can walk away from anytime for an extra £12 a month..
I've got a family membership on this rolling basis £280 pcm..
Didn't want to commit & then find we weren't using it but I think it's just about working out ok, I play tennis with my lad a couple of times a week, use the spa & (at least these last few weeks) the outdoor pool with the Mrs, she does gym & yoga classes, my boy does the gym once a week & uses the indoor pool, get a couple of guest passes a month which she usually takes her sister or a mate in on, but I'm Self employed so if work turns to shit it will be the first thing to get chopped from the household budget.. hth.

Re: David Lloyd
Moose - yeah she's mentioned it a couple of times. But she seems to have it in her head that its hundreds and hundreds a month per person. So if I get a couples membership, she'll never be able to find out its actually only £180 for both of us and i'll get a shit load of brownie points.

Re: David Lloyd
David Lloyd is included with Vitality now so get 40% off with life insurance and 50% off with health insurance.

They are lovely clubs if you have the time.

Gyms are Gymy enough for me. I train in a shitty old warehouse with lots of hammer strength and free weights and a shitty old Versa climber for cardio.

However the Mrs is a member at Clearview Virgin Active (also included on Vitality) and it’s nice to have a bit of air conditioning once or twice a month, plus great to be able to take our little boy in the indoor or outdoor pool, get some nice food and spend some time as a family being active.

Gyms and health clubs aren’t for all but if you use them and they are your thing, then they are great value.

I was asking the question to Andy, as I know what my other half's reaction would be if I bought her a membership to a fitness club when she hadn't expressed a desire to have one.
